the first grand slam of the year,started in 1905 in melbourne, from 1905 to 1987 it was played on the grass court ,but from 1987 it is played in the hard court. initially it was only mens championship but the womens singles was added in 1922,and the tournament renamed as australian championship in 1927.in 1969 again the name changed and then it was coined the name australian open.initially, the tournament had been held in January. but in 1977, it was moved to December, This lasted until 1987 when the event moved back to January,so there was no australian open in 1986.but since then it is played every year in january month,

held in the month of may for 2 weeks in paris,event began 1891 as the Championat de France International de Tennis.The French Championship was a one-day national competition, and was opened to international players in 1925. The event was held on grass courts, alternately between the Racing Club de France and the Stade Français.between 1945-1947 tournament was held after wimbeldon ,but since then it has become the second grand slam of the year.

Its first ground was situated off Worple Road,ladies singles started from 1884.In 1922, the Club was renamed to reflect its prestige in the tennis world. And so the All England Lawn Tennis Club was born. It was moved to its present day Church Road site to accommodate a 14,000-seat stadium and within the decade surpassed 200,000-person attendance despite being at the height of a worldwide depression.. In October 1940 a 'stick' of five 500lb bombs struck Centre Court, resulting in the loss of 1,200 seats.Early in 1946 the decision was taken to resume The Championships that summer.1973 was a sad year for Wimbledon when 81 members of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) boycotted the meeting following the suspension earlier in the year of Nikki Pilic by the Yugoslavian Lawn Tennis Association. Despite the absence of so many players, attendance reached more than 300,000. Jan Kodes of Czechoslovakia and Billie Jean King won the Singles Championships for the sixth time.
